Never Give Up! [Pa Janm Abandone!]
In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on October 11, 1993, shortly before noon, I was born to Marie G. Idely & Alphonse A. Desauguste. At the time of my birth, my father was a U.S. Citizen; therefore, he immediately petitioned for my American Citizenship. A year later, I was living in South Florida under his care.
[Nan Pòtoprens, Ayiti, nan dat 11 Oktòb 1993, yon ti tan anvan midi, Marie G. Idely ak Alphonse A. Desauguste te fe mwen. Nan moman nesans mwen, papa m te deja yon Sitwayen Ameriken; se poutèt sa, li imedyatman petisyone pou Sitwayènte Ameriken mwen. Yon ane pita, mwen t ap viv nan Sid Florid anba swen li.]
My mother eventually migrated to the United States and we, as a family, lived in Jacksonville, Florida. During my childhood, I went to Haiti many times but the most harrowing experience was on January 12, 2010. Many people don't know, but I was there for that catastrophic earthquake which killed over 250,000 Haitians. All I know is that I am lucky to be alive today.
I have been focused on the current trajectory of my life and, more importantly, the lives of other Haitians. I work to bring other Haitians, within in the community, under a common banner of faith, love, intellect, unity, respect, and prosperity.
[Mwen konsantre sou trajectoire aktyèl la nan lavi mwen ak, pi enpòtan, lavi lòt Ayisyen yo. Mwen travay pou pote lòt Ayisyen, nan kominote a, anba yon banyè komen nan lafwa, lanmou, entelektyèl, inite, respè, ak pwosperite.]
